Twin flames, a spiritual concept, represent a connection between two people that is magnetic, deeply familiar, and spiritual. They are your mirror, triggering past wounds to resurface so you do the work, heal, and make transformative change in your life. Completely different to a soulmate connection.

Upon meeting, it'll feel like you've known them before, otherwise known as 'twin flame soul recognition'. Usually the two of you will go through a 'honeymoon' period where everything feels amazing, you get on great, things couldn’t be more perfect… only to then have the connection ripped away from you as one twin pulls away and runs from the intense connection as it’s a spiritual, energetic connection. What follows is a period of no contact that will eventually trigger a spiritual awakening, transformative growth and push you onto your true life's purpose.

Meeting

When you first meet, it will likely feel you have a deep familiarity with this person but can't quite put your finger on why. It feels as if you've known each other before.

The "meeting stage" in a twin flame relationship is characterized by an intense, almost magnetic connection and a feeling of deep familiarity, as if the individuals have known each other for lifetimes, even if meeting for the first time.

Honeymoon

A twin flame relationship is characterised by an intense, magnetic connection. The honeymoon stage is a period of intense connection and bliss, and you'll likely start to feel your heart chakra opening. It feels so good and you can't believe you have such a great connection with someone so instantly.

Crisis

What goes up most come down, and in the context of twin flames, the crisis stage is a period of intense emotional turmoil as if everything around you is falling apart and you can't make sense of the connection or anything else. It may trigger feelings of abandonment, loss and heartbreak.

Separation

The divine masculine - the one with an avoidant attachment or avoidant dismissive style - will become so overwhelmed with the connection that they will run, leaving the divine feminine - usually one with an anxious attachment style - feeling so confused. Why would they run from such an amazing connection? This is because they have never felt anything like this before, and it scares the divine masculine. Essentially the divine masculine (or 'DM') is actually running from themselves, not the connection itself. But as twin flames are mirrors of one another, it shows the divine feminine is running from themselves too: always putting others first, abandoning themselves for others. When the divine maculine runs - which usually looks like blocking someone on social media, ignoring them, running off to another relationship) it shocks the divine feminine, reflecting back all of their past traumas. There will be a period where the divine feminine goes through obsessive thinking and wondering when her twin flame will come back, but this subsides once they realise they can't go on with their old life anymore and start doing the work to change. What motivates them to change is their twin flame. This period of separation is an essential part on the twin flame journey that triggers a spiritual awakening, transformative growth and inner healing.

Surrender

Surrendering on the twin flame journey does not mean giving up on your twin flame, detaching or letting them go. You can't simply let them go or do a cord cutting ritual because you are connected spiritually in this lifetime and the next. What it means is surrendering to and detaching from the outcome, essentially practicing the Law of Detachment. Don't focus on when your divine masculine will come back, but have an inner knowing that they will return one day when the timing is right and if you have done the work. Some divine feminines feel this is too intense and too much work, so opt for a soulmate.

The surrender stage is an incredibly difficult period for the divine feminine as they are typically the ones with an anxious attachment style and may have a fear of abandonment. Detaching involves letting go of attachment, control and expectations, and trusting in the unfolding of the relationship and the universe's plan, rather than forcing a specific outcome.

As the divine feminine begins to let go, focuses on herself and her life's mission, your divine masculine will come roaring back into your life. But you must first align with yourself, your life's purpose, and come into spiritual / 5D union with yourself and your twin flame before there is a chance of physical / 3D union.

Reunion

The reunion stage is characterised by a feeling of two souls coming together in a way that feels natural and harmonious after a period of individual growth and transformation. You may go in and out of reunion and back into separation, but this depends on how much work and healing both twins have done. It is important to communicate with and work with each other to create a harmonious union.

Meeting your twin flame is the best thing that could happen to you. It might not seem like it when you're in the midst of separation as all you want to do is be with your twin flame and reignite the connection, but you need to look at it as a lesson and a catalyst for transformative growth and change. Together you will be so powerful, but separation is preparation - so now is the time to do the inner work knowing you absolutely will reunite again one day.
