Imbolc is a Celtic festival that marks the beginning of Spring and the halfway point between the Winter Solstice (21st December) and the Spring Equinox (around 20th March). It's celebrated around February 1st or 2nd each year and symbolises new beginnings. For many modern Pagans, Imbolc is a time of purification and clearing away of the old in preparation for new beginnings in the coming year. Many of the celebrations and practices are linked to the Celtic goddess Brigid.
How to celebrate Imbolc
Â
Spring clean your house
Make a Brigid's cross
Practice divination
Plant seeds
Decorate your altar space
Cleanse your space with incense
Eat/drink dairy products or drink herbal tea
Reflect and rejuvenate
Meditate
Visit a natural water source like a river or the sea
Wear white, light blue, green or yellow as they're associated with purity, renewal and Spring
On Imbolc, take some time to write down all that you learnt over the winter. Think about all the challenges you've overcome and all the wisdom you've gained from what you've learnt. Now you can take what you've learnt and use it to grow in the year ahead. Light candles to welcome back the light and to symbolically feel yourself moving out of hibernation, taking those first steps towards light and new beginnings.
